The Burke Mountain Discovery Centre + Coffee House has been designed for current and future residents to gather and learn about Burke Mountain, Burke Mountain Village, and the City’s land planning activity. Moreover, it provides a quiet setting to connect and socialize over coffee—the neighbourhood’s coffee house.

The one-storey building responds to its sloping site and surrounding context, emphasizing openness and accessibility. The building’s rectangular and ‘L’ shape organizes itself around a level outdoor terrace that functions as an entry court, patio, and small gathering space, accessible from the parking lot and existing sidewalk.

The building has two main programmatic spaces, the Discovery Centre and Coffee House. Both areas face the outdoor terrace and are marked by full-height glazing and generous building overhangs—design elements intended to encourage indoor and outdoor connections, capitalize on the warm southern exposure, and frame views of the surrounding landscape.

We provided a complete interior shell space for the Discovery Centre and Coffee House with finished floors, walls, and ceilings. The intent was to create open and flexible spaces that can accommodate the future tenants while maintaining design continuity within the overall building.
