Extension and renovation, single-family home

This home extension was designed for a small growing family. For this project, we proposed a modest addition that expands the kitchen, dining, and living areas and extends them further into the backyard—a primary place of play for the family’s young children. Additionally, these living spaces are brought closer to an existing mature Garry Oak tree—a treasure of the Pacific Northwest and a living sculpture for the family to enjoy throughout the seasons.

This composition is a powerful reminder that a special kind of beauty emerges when things new and old are brought together—a vessel borne of what we already have and just a little more for us to grow.
