Interior design, office space

An Office for a Chartered Accounting & Business Advisory firm. The unit space for this project is located within a newly built, stratified industrial office building in the Mount Pleasant neighbourhood of Central Vancouver.

The design takes its material cues from its raw shell space composed primarily of concrete structure, including floors, ceilings, and columns. These elements are left exposed and expressed in the resulting space: parged columns left as is, floor slab ground down and polished, and the ceiling slab left to view, with its network of building services carefully masked and painted white as a contrast to the concrete surfaces and spatially creating a mirroring effect of the floor and ceiling.

A limited, neutral palette of black and white permeates the fixtures, furnishings, and millwork, complimenting the space’s base of raw concrete and white walls, creating an almost gallery-like space. A blackened, randomized Douglas fir slatted wood wall separates the glassed-in boardroom and provides a textured folly to the other smoother surfaces.

Programmatically, the space plan includes a small reception-seating area, a boardroom, a staff kitchen area, and workstations. Except for the boardroom, this interior space is free of walls and partitions, providing a feeling of generosity and, in concert with its materiality, a further sense of clarity, simplicity, and openness.
